The difference between Group and Individual Insurance is more than just the number of persons covered under the policy. There are also different rules and regulations that apply. For instance, with Individual Insurance, you are not part of a company or group that provides Insurance for employees or members. You deal directly with the Insurance Carrier. You (and possibly your dependants) are the ones that are Insured. You may be turned down for Individual Insurance depending upon the Insurance Carrier's underwriting guidelines and your health history. With Group Health Insurance you are part of a company or group of members connected by some type of business or association. Even a group of two persons may qualify for Group Health Insurance. Especially exciting is the narrow scope of groups consisting of two to fifty employees or members. These groups qualify for insurance known as Small Group Insurance and are protected by State Legislation (ab1672) giving them quite an advantage over larger groups for insurance purposes. If your group even has slightly more than fifty employees or members you may still qualify for Small Group under ab1672. Email me with your questions or call (530)222-2233. Small Groups qualifying under ab1672 are guaranteed to receive coverage regardless of the health of the members. Larger groups are treated more like Individuals in that they must submit a census and answer some medical health questions and the Insurance Carrier may decline to insure or even quote a price for the Group. Note: Please be aware that these are not the only Insurance situations that may affect you and you should always inquire for information from a Licensed Insurance Agent.
